The building designed for GEL Corp serves as the corporate office and a weigh station for vehicles at its Orange City site. The structure includes a large open office area and two enclosed offices. In addition, there is a large employee lounge and restroom facilities. We have also included, in the design, restroom facilities for drivers which are accessible from the exterior of the building. Several key features were considered when designing the building. Structural stability was perhaps the most critical. Since the site is an old landfill the building literally had to be floated since we could not get appropriate consolidation of the soils. Secondly, because of the vibration caused by the close proximity of large vehicles, we utilized a tilt-wall system to provide greater durability of the construction materials. Another key feature of the design is the use of solar panels on the roof of the building which significantly reduce the operational costs of the structure.
