The Women’s Softball Complex consists of a 3,260 square foot a Training Facility and a 1,586 square foot Press Box & Grandstand Facility. The Training Facility structure houses coach’s offices, a 20 player locker room, a training room, laundry facilities, restrooms, and a large multi-purpose team room capable of seating 84 persons. The facility is located on the Patricia Wilson Field site and is designed to integrate architecturally with the adjacent buildings to the south of the structure. It is situated so that it provides immediate access to the softball field and equipment on the north side as well as providing access to visitors from Michigan Avenue. This building, in conjunction with Patricia Wilson Field and Press Box make an impressive statement to prospective recruits. “Carter Architecture” teamed together with Coach Frank Griffin and Bace Construction, Inc. to create a building that meets the needs of the women’s softball program, was within budget and was built on schedule.
The 1,586 square foot two story Press Box & Grandstand building was designed and erected adjacent to the existing women’s competition softball field. The design of the building had to integrate with the existing construction with very little site area. The structure is fully handicap accessible and contains a ticket booth and storage areas on the 1st floor. The 2nd floor contains air conditioned media and VIP suites which have a full view of the field. The design also included handicap accessible bleachers which tie directly into the 2nd floor of the building.
This project was undertaken in a “design build” relationship with BACE Construction, Inc. after Stetson University had contracted with another design firm who could not meet the University’s budget. As a result, the time frame for the design and construction of the building was significantly shortened. Our team worked hand-in-hand with Coach Frank Griffin to design and build the building below the original budget, including the fees of the original design firm. The project was completed on schedule and in time for the Atlantic Sun Championship Tournament and is now an integral part of the multi-award winning Patricia Wilson Field complex.
